HerStory Thursdays: Megan Smith

Today's HerStory Thursday we'll be talking about the current (until January 20 2017) Chief Technical Officer of the United States, Megan Smith.

In 2014, President Obama appointed Megan to the position of CTO in the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Before becoming CTO, megan was a Vice President at Google and co-created the "Womentechmakers" diversity initiative there.

In 1988, Megan graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and went to work at Apple Computers in Tokyo and later as a product designer for General Magic. Megan also became the COO and later CEO of PlanetOut, one of the first online LGBTQ communities on the internet.

Megan is a pioneering individual whose contributions to the internet, technology, and diversity through her position as CTO of the United States. She is a really cool advocate for women in technology and I got to meet her at Grace Hopper Celebration for Women in Computing 2016 when she came to give a keynote speech!
